The Collaboration on Atmospheric Environment and Health is a national collaboration developing environmental health research methods and strategies, disseminating skills in environmental health research, risk management and policy development, especially via teaching and workforce training activities. There is increasing concern about air pollution and health in urban areas. Recent epidemiological research in Australia has found statistically significant associations of air pollution and climatic factors on health. There is increasing evidence that climate change is occurring and with the combination of air pollution this creates new public health risks. A national process to develop new guidelines is in progress and it is very important for environmental and public health staff at the local and state level to be well-informed about these issues. In addition, environmental health researchers at key universities and research agencies need to be familiar with up-to-date research techniques to provide research support for local actions and policies. OBJECTIVES OF THE COLLABORATION
Collaborating Institutions:
The Collaboration on Atmospheric Environment and Health is supported by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing.
