What is involved for Employers?

Benefits of participation

  • Provides an opportunity to understand how workplace policies impact on employees across a broad range of areas business.

  • Demonstrates to external bodies the company's commitment to employees and enhances companies/departments community image.

  • Overall consistency with being an Employer of Choice


What does the Project involve?

  • The Project involves researching the workplace overall and the individual employees at the workplace.

  • In studying the overall workplace qualitative analysis would be done of policies applicable at the workplace together with brief interviews with management

  • In studying individual employees, volunteers working a minimum number of hours and having children in a particular age range would be sought

  • The process for recruiting volunteers would be determined in consultation with departments and management

  • The aim is to understand an entire week in the life of the employee. Those volunteering to participate would be visited in their homes or another mutually agreed location on a couple of occasions. The employee is asked to complete a questionnaire regarding themselves, their work and their family. Their partner is also asked to complete a shorter survey. The whole family also participates in a saliva test a couple of times throughout the week, placing the samples in the freezer until they are collected.

  • All levels of employees in the companies would be encouraged to participate in the project.

  • The time commitment for individual employees should not generally exceed 1 to 2 weeks.

  • Researchers would also consult with the relevant Unions regarding workplace practices and experiences.
