Applications are invited to undertake MPhil research in epidemiology, biostatistics, demography, anthropology, sociology and health economics at the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health.

Duration of Candidature
The MPhil degree is available on a full- or part-time basis. A full-time degree normally takes one or two years and a part-time degree two to four years to complete.

Admission to the degree
Candidates should hold an honours degree, at least at the level of upper second class, an MBBS, or a masters degree in a discipline relevant to an area of the Centre's research interests.

Research Topic
NCEPH encourages students to pursue their own interests, provided adequate supervision can be found. However, we recognise that not everyone has a specific topic in mind when they think about doing a MPhil. Applicants are encouraged to browse NCEPH's research areas and the list of hot topics. Further information on the research interests of academic staff can be found on individual staff webpages.

As we cannot admit MPhil candidates for whom supervision is not available, applicants are urged to discuss their proposal with the Graduate Studies Convenor or a member of the academic staff before puting in a formal application. The completed application must include academic transcripts, names of referees, a research proposal and evidence of English language competency (if appropriate). We also encourage you to include examples of written work where possible.

Referees Reports
We recommend that when seeking references, applicants approach people that can comment on their academic performance. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that all referees' reports are forwarded to the University. Applicants cannot be considered by the selection committee until these reports are received.

Closing Dates
Applications for admission to the MPhil degree are accepted at any time during the year but may only be considered at meetings in June and November.
