Infectious diseases epidemiology
This group applies multidisciplinary approaches to emerging issues in communicable diseases. We combine strengths in research, education and the disciplines of field-based epidemiology, health services research and mathematical modeling to translate research findings into policy and practice.
There are three broad, overlapping areas of research.
Modelling to Inform Infectious Disease Control
We assess public health interventions and develop methods to estimate critical parameters such as vaccine efficacy and the reproduction number. The work is motivated with reference to pertussis, measles, influenza, tuberculosis, dengue fever and Ross River virus disease.
Foodborne Diseases
Ways to safeguard our food supply and associations between foodborne diseases and environmental variables are studied.
Applied Epidemiology
We develop and assess surveillance systems, conduct outbreak investigations and perform associated data analyses.
