Idiopathic chronic fatigue - A systematic review and meta-analysis of animal models exploring immune function or energy pathways.

Long-term fatigue of unknown mechanism or origin (idiopathic fatigue, e.g., ME - Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) has found new urgency with the emergence of long COVID. A number of animal models have been attempted to solve this problem, with possible clues to human aetiology to be discovered.

About

The mystery of post-viral fatigue syndromes, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), ME, and now long COVID has encouraged various research methods to resolve this issue. Included among these research avenues are the development of animal models that resemble human fatigue syndromes, with rodent models most usually presented within this schema. The animal models allow the testing of interventions that impact immune or other physiological function, thereby providing insights into disease triggers and bases of pathology. The project on offer is a systematic review (SR) and meta-analysis of an animal research corpus containing various models and interventions. The student can choose between immune function or cell energetics within this context.
