About
Gizem (she/her) is a PhD candidate creating infectious disease models. Her research combines aspects of applied mathematics, heath economics, and epidemiology. The first phase of her Thesis quantified the characteristics of maternal pneumococcal vaccines necessary to meaningfully reduce the burden of infant pneumococcal disease. The second phase of her Thesis involved case studies to assess the impact and cost-effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines and oral antivirals in Fiji, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Timor-Leste. Gizem is currently working to understand how vaccine prioritisation decisions are determined by the characteristics of emerging pathogens. On weekends, you will find her playing soccer, reading a book, or tending to her veggie patch.
