Helen Christensen, BA (Hons) (Syd), MPsych, PhD (UNSW), FASSA, is Director & Chief Scientist of the Black Dog Institute and a Professor of Mental Health at the University of New South Wales, a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) John Cade Research Fellow, a member of the Academy of Social Sciences, Australia, the past President of the Australasian Society for Psychiatric Research, and the immediate past President of the International Society for Research in Internet Interventions. She is also the Chief Investigator for the NHMRC Clinical Research Centre for Excellence in Suicide Prevention.

She is the author of over 400 refereed journal articles, seven consumer books and three open access websites.Her areas of interest include the evaluation of internet applications / online programs for the prevention and treatment of mental disorders, the quality of websites, the integration of new technologies into health care, the development of evidence informed policy and methods to measure impact and dissemination.

Professor Christensen is an international leader in the use of technology to deliver evidence-based psychological therapies to communities and individuals who suffer from anxiety, depression or who are at risk of suicide. The impact of her work has been recognised through national and international awards, positions in international and national societies, and citation counts that position her in the top 1% of researchers internationally. Over the last decade Professor Christensen’s research has involved the development, testing, implementation and dissemination of eHealth applications aimed at reducing or preventing anxiety, depression and suicide risk.
