Description
Abstract: Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC) is an apex body of the Government of Nepal to promote and coordinate health research in Nepal. As per the mandate of the NHRC Act 1991, NHRC broadly works on four areas: research regulation, evidence generation, capacity building and promoting the use of evidence in policy and planning. Any person or organisation willing to conduct health research in Nepal should get ethical approval from the NHRC before conducting the study as per the national ethical guidelines for health research in Nepal. The NHRC has established Ethical Review Boards (ERBs) and 65 Institutional Review Committees (IRCs) to review research proposals for ethical soundness. The NHRC also periodically prioritises health research areas and conducts research on these areas in response to the demands of the Government of Nepal and health development partners. The NHRC offers training on proposal development, data analysis, and scientific writing, as well as training on implementation research at both national and sub-national levels. Furthermore, NHRC is committed to promoting the use of evidence in policy and planning through regular research communication and advocacy with relevant stakeholders. Ultimately, fostering collaboration and networking at both national and international levels is a crucial strategy for advancing high-quality health research in Nepal.
