About

Mental disorders are defined as conditions that affect your thinking, feeling, mood, and behavior. The conditions can be either occasional or chronic. Mental disorders remain among the top ten leading causes of burden worldwide, and it ranks second in Australia's non-fatal burden of disease. In any year in Australia, over 2 in 5 people aged 16–85 have experienced a mental health disorder.

To reduce the burden of mental disorders, coordinated delivery of effective intervention and treatment programs is imperative. However, there is a large treatment gap for mental disorders globally, with approximately 42–44% of those seeking treatment from mental health professionals. And this untreated proportion is even greater in low- and middle-income countries.
