Apply for the 2020 Master of Applied Epidemiology Program

Do you want to be on the frontline addressing public health threats, developing sound skills in epidemiology and using these to make a difference?  Do you want to add experience to your CV while you’re getting a degree?  If so, the MAE is for you.

The Master of Applied Epidemiology (MAE) Program is Australia’s long standing and globally recognised Field Epidemiology Training Program.  MAE scholars based in Australia spend the majority of their time in a field placement (typically a government health department or other appropriate health organisations) conducting useful and important projects while supported via a tax-free scholarship of $50,000 per annum. 

The MAE has been run by the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health at the Australian National University since 1991.  MAE scholars have investigated over 300 outbreaks, established or evaluated multiple surveillance systems, conducted important projects into communicable and non-communicable diseases and then gone onto hold senior positions in health departments in Australia or work with international organisations including the World Health Organization. Seventeen per cent of graduates are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander persons.

ASEAN-Australia Health Security Fellowship Program

Currently there are a limited number of field placements in ASEAN countries where the scholarship is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) as part of the ASEAN-Australia Health Security Fellowship Program. For more information on the program, including the countries with possible field placements, eligibility criteria and closing dates please see the website.
