CMHR PhD Student Brad Carron-Arthur has recently travelled to Lake Las Vegas (Nevada, USA) to take part in the World’s Toughest Mudder race. The World’s Toughest Mudder Race consists of a 24-hour extreme obstacle course, designed to test not only athlete’s strength and stamina but also their mental determination. The competitors continuously run around a five mile obstacle course, while tackling 20 unique obstacles, including the 10 m cliff jump which is not for the faint hearted. The person who travels the most distance during the 24 hours is the declared the winner.

Brad completed 18 laps of the course, covering a total of 90 miles (145 kilometres) earning him an outstanding third place from a field of 1200 participants from 20 countries around the world. Brad was ecstatic to receive a podium finish in this extremely tough race, “‘I am absolutely stoked. I wasn't expecting podium. But I executed my race plan perfectly, had all the right gear and nutrition. It went so smoothly I don't have a single blister or missing toenail”.

This has not only been an outstanding personal achievement for Brad, but one through which he hoped to share his passion for mental health research, by raising funds for the Centre for Mental Health Research. Brad aimed to raise $1,000 for this worthy cause, and to date has more than doubled this. Donations can be made at the everyday hero page.

Congratulations Brad on your amazing achievement.
