The Driving, Ageing, Safety and Health study (DASH) aims to recruit 350 older drivers (aged 65 and above) to investigate the accuracy of current driver screening tools.

The study has been recruiting volunteers since 2013 and assessed the 300th participant on Friday 19th June. DASH is funded by a 5-year NHMRC project grant awarded to Professor Kaarin Anstey and Professor Joanne Wood (QUT).

The researchers will collect data on older drivers’ performance on driver screening tests, cognition, vision, hearing as well as on-road driving skills, and driver behaviour over a period of 2 years - providing one of the most comprehensive datasets to date on factors that predict late-life driving. Researchers hope the findings will lead to improvements in practice and policy for senior drivers.

Recruitment for DASH is open until the end of September 2015. Anyone aged 65 and over with a current driver’s license is urged to contact the research team on 02 6125 1457.
