2 March 2020

Good News

Gabriele Bammer can now report (embargo has been lifted) that she served on a US National Science Foundation “blue-ribbon panel” for their 2026 Idea Machine contest (https://www.nsf.gov/news/special_reports/nsf2026ideamachine/index.jsp).

Gabriele Bammer has been invited to be a keynote speaker at a conference “Transdisciplinarity as an institutional challenge for universities” in Berlin in March.

Keynote and invited presentations

Gabriele Bammer ran an invited workshop on successful research leadership (especially in interdisciplinary research) at Massey University in New Zealand; this was run remotely.

Outreach and engagement

Gabriele Bammer attended the first meeting in Sydney of the Expert Advisory Panel of the Australian Automobile Association to discuss research ideas for a funding program on fatigued driving.

Gabriele Bammer and Peter Deane produced the January/February i2S News (https://i2s.anu.edu.au/what-i2s/i2s-publications/i2s-news), which features a tool for planning change, updated tools for change management and expert judgment for risk analysis, the International Journal of General Systems, the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC) Society, as well as the Evidence & Implementation Summit 2020, 38th International Conference of the System Dynamics Society, and Interdisciplinary Network for Group Research 15th Annual Conference. These have all recently been added as resources to the Integration and Implementation Sciences website (https://i2s.anu.edu.au/resources).

In February the i2Insights blog (http://i2Insights.org), curated by Gabriele Bammer and Peter Deane published blog posts about making power relations more equal in transdisciplinary research by decentering academia through critical unlearning, a guiding framework for transdisciplinary action research, how resilience can benefit from planning, how unknown unknowns aid creativity, and how theory U can help embrace unknown unknowns.
