Tackling Indigenous Smoking program (Impact and outcome assessment of TIS Regional Tobacco Control Grants)

Keynote and invited presentations

  • Jill Guthrie was a key note speaker at the PHAA Justice Health Conference in April.

     

Other conference presentations

  • Emily Banks gave a presentation on “Using large scale data to provide evidence on cancer survivorship” at the Psycho-oncology Co-operative Research Group (PoCoG) Early Career Researcher Workshop on 3 April.
  • Katie Thurber and Jen Walker presented to the Steering Committee for the Longitudinal Study of Indigenous Children on preliminary findings from the DSS-funded project, “Production of Mental Health Measures Technical Report for the Longitudinal Study of Indigenous Children (LSIC)”.

 

RSPH Workshops and seminars

  • Jason presented at an NCEPH seminar on NCEPH’s role in the new heart health assessment Medicare item.
  • Jenny Welsh gave her PhD exit seminar on “Psychological distress and cardiovascular disease: An investigation into the epidemiological evidence”.

 

Awards

Muhammad-Shadaat Bin-Sayeed received an Outstanding reviewer certificate from J of Ethnopharmacology.

 

 

Implementation, Engagement and Outreach

  • Cathy Day led two community workshops at the local family history society and has been invited to present to U3A on ‘DNA and identity’.
  • Alice Richardson provided an example of the impact of research on research participants.  Alice talked about her dad being interviewed by Dr Georgia Pike as part of a CRAHW research project. Alice highlighted the importance of treating people with respect and that our older generations have a lot to bring to research projects.
  • Jason Agostino, Natasha Schranz (Heart Foundation) and Natalie Raffoul (Heart Foundation) conducted a half day workshop “Heart Health: Hearts and Minds” at the Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association (APNA) 2019 National Conference in Adelaide 4-6 April.
  • The EPP team has been involved in the development of the newly implemented “Heart Health Assessment” Medicare item.

 

Other news

  • Ben Huntingdon was welcomed to the EPP team.  Ben is completing his PhD through the University of Sydney and collaborating on the Person Centred Outcomes project.
