Dementia is the number one cause of death for all Australians and is a progressive condition that leads to reduced life expectancy and decreased quality of life. Research into its prevention is essential to decrease the risk of dementia in the population. Here at ANU, we are striving to better understand some of the risk factors associated with dementia.
Learn about the research we are conducting to support dementia prevention:
- Physical Activity for Better Health and Drive (PhABHeaD): Investigates whether physical activity, cognitive training, or both together are more effective at maintaining or improving thinking skills.
- Physical Health in Early and Late Onset Alzheimer’s Disease (PHiELAD): Investigates the factors associated with the time of onset of Alzheimer's Disease.
- Genetics, Modifiable Risk Factors, Brain Health & Cognitive Function: Investigates how genetic variation in genes associated with ageing interacts with modifiable risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension, mental health, sleep, diet and physical activity to protect brain health and lower our risk of dementia.
