About

My research addresses fundamental questions about mortality, health inequalities and healthy ageing in Australia and internationally. Drawing on demographic and epidemiological methods, linked administrative data and comparative population perspectives, I develop innovative analytical approaches to generate evidence that informs policy and practice.

My research spans a broad range of population health challenges, including chronic diseases (particularly cardiovascular disease), multiple causes of death, socioeconomic and geographic inequalities in health and healthcare, climate change and health, and the direct and indirect impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on mortality and life expectancy. More recently, I have focused on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, working in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and researchers to apply nationally linked administrative data in culturally safe research that supports Indigenous Data Sovereignty and strengthens the evidence base for community-led decision-making.

I collaborate with researchers across Australia, Europe and North America and have published in leading international journals, including The Lancet Public Health, The Lancet Planetary Health, International Journal of Epidemiology and PNAS.
