Our vision

Our research provides the knowledge and tools to ensure people have the supports they need to be mentally healthy and live well.

Our mission

The mission of the Centre for Mental Health Research (CMHR) is to lead outstanding mental health research that has meaningful influence on policy, practice, society and individuals. We bring a public health perspective that is responsive to community needs, and values prevention and recovery.

Our research

We aim to conduct rigorous, accessible and innovative research that addresses issues important to the mental health of our society. Our research is multidisciplinary, with a focus on promoting quality of life, prevention, evidence-based treatment and recovery. We actively engage with diverse stakeholders and are responsive to their needs, with a core focus on lived experience perspectives. Our team collaborates with communities to translate research findings into better outcomes for policy, capacity, growth and leadership in mental health research practice, society and individuals. We are connected to mental health research networks in Australian and internationally, building capacity and leadership in mental health research and training the next generation of research leaders.

Our core areas of research include:

  • Lived experience research leadership
  • Prevention of anxiety and depression in children, youth and families
  • Suicide prevention
  • Digital mental health interventions
  • Implementation of evidence-based programs into practice
