Clinical outcomes of Campylobacter in Australia

Campylobacter infections are the most frequently reported enteric pathogen in Australia but concerted public health effort to reduce the impact of this common cause of foodborne illness is lacking. This study will look to provide an overview of the disease in Australia but with particular attention on the burden of severe disease , including the impact of hospitalisation and mortality. This project also offers the opportunity to further elucidate the natural history of campylobacteriosis, including examination of recognised and emerging complications and post-infectious sequelae. This work is funded via an NHMRC postgraduate research scholarship.
