Non-communicable diseases, health system responsiveness, and ageing in Asia-Pacific region

This study is funded through the Asia Pacific Observatory on Health Systems and Policies (World Health Organization, Western Pacific Regional Office) Fellowship Programme to support Dr Vasoontara Yiengprugsawan based at the ANU’s Research School of Population Health.  The Fellow is co-mentored by Professor Harold Kendig (ANU) and Professor Alan Lopez (The University of Melbourne).

This regional comparative study explores the varied ways in which a country’s health services are responding, and plan to respond to rapidly ageing populations and to emerging non‐communicable diseases (NCDs). The study consists of an overview of NCDs (eg stroke, adult onset diabetes, chronic kidney diseases) and ageing population, projection scenarios, analytical assessment of current health service delivery in older persons, identifying cross-cutting issues, and policy recommendations.
