Work, family life stressors and Common Mental Disorders in Australia

Common Mental Disorders (CMDs) (depression, anxiety and substance use) are known to affect 20% of the population in any given year yet information about risk factors for young adults is sparse.

Major changes in work and family circumstances during early adulthood play an important role in the development of CMDs during this life stage.

This project aims to evaluate the impact of the combination of work and family life stressors on the development of CMDs during early adulthood in Australia using data from a longitudinal population-based survey.

This project is funded by an NHMRC Early Career Researcher Fellowship to Dr Leach.
