We estimate that in 2010 there were 15.9 million cases of gastroenteritis in Australia, around 25% of which were due to contaminated food. This project updates these estimates to the present day, and estimates the economic costs of these illness in dollar terms and in quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) lost. The project will explicitly cost high-incidence and severe pathogens such as Salmonella, Campylobacter, and Listeria monocytogene.
