Cognitive Ageing and Dementia

5 July 2012

Findings from the PATH cohort, recently published in Alzheimer’s and Dementia, showed that approximately 10% of Australians aged 68-72 had some form of mild cognitive disorder.

However, only about half the diagnoses had been consistent over the study. Those with consistent impaired cognition, had lower cognitive tests scores at the commencement of the study, and increased cardiovascular risk factors. Individuals with cognitive disorders were more likely to report difficulties with some everyday activities such as making phone calls and reading maps.
