In a recent study led by CRAHW researchers, data from the US Health & Retirement Study (HRS) and the Australian Household Income & Labour Dynamics Survey (HILDA), were used to compare government policy frameworks on individual retirement expectations for baby boomers and pre baby boomers.

Results revealed a larger gender difference in the expected age of retirement for the Australian sample compared to the US.

The figure below reveals that the gender difference is more consistent across age groups (baby boomers versus pre baby boomers) for the Australian sample.
