March report for Integration and Implementation Sciences

3 March 2021

Good News

Gabriele Bammer has been invited to add the list of terms with definitions she is developing for the Integration and Implementation Insights blog (https://i2insights.org/index/list-of-terms-with-definitions/) to the BioPortal repository (https://bioportal.bioontology.org), which is run out of Stanford University and is the leading international resource for openly available medical ontologies and vocabularies.

Gabriele Bammer has been invited to give an online master talk to the Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) International Centres of Excellence (ICoE) which is part of Academia Sinica in Taipei, Taiwan, as well as an online keynote on “institutionalising transdisciplinarity at universities” at a conference on that topic in Berlin, Germany.

Keynote and invited presentations

Gabriele Bammer was an invited keynote speaker at the online closing event for the “Processes of Sustainability Transformation” research project funded by Leuphana University Lüneburg (Germany) and the Robert Bosch Foundation. She was also a plenary panelist on “Optimising implementation for impact” at the online Impact Frameworks & Cultural Change Conference organised by the National Institute for Health Research in the UK.

Outreach and engagement

Gabriele Bammer and Peter Deane produced the January/February i2S News (https://i2s.anu.edu.au/what-i2s/i2s-publications/i2s-news), which featured a risk and equity matrix for stakeholder engagement, a conceptual tool differentiating adoption and use, a video on the dilution effect bias, the International Association for Critical Realism, the Journal of Critical Realism and two conferences: 2021 International System Dynamics Conference and Sustainability Research and Innovation Congress 2021. These have recently been added as resources to the Integration and Implementation Sciences website (https://i2s.anu.edu.au/resources).

In February the Integration and Implementation Insights blog (http://i2Insights.org) curated by Gabriele Bammer and Peter Deane doubled the number of blog posts published and set new records for views (nearly 24K) and viewers (15.5K). Blog posts covered measuring interdisciplinarity, knowledge systems, diversity, foresight, complexity and leadership. The blog’s list of terms with definitions attracted interest from a German professor developing a wiki about methods, who would like to build on the list for the wiki, as well as the BioPortal repository (see good news above).

Gabriele Bammer chaired and organised two meeting of the NITRO-Oceania (Network of Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Research Organisations – Oceania) Executive, participated in a Future Earth Australia Steering Committee meeting and provided feedback to the University of Texas at Austin on their Planet Texas 2050 Grand Challenge.

Education

Gabriele Bammer is part of a cross-ANU team that has been invited to present to the Teaching and Learning Development Committee on the “Future of learning.”
