The National Centre for Health Workforce Studies (NCHWS) is embarking on a national research, education and data leadership program to support government policy makers, industry, professions, regulators and the education/training sector to address workforce priorities for health and care sectors.
The National Centre for Health Workforce Studies (NCHWS) aims to be a major academic centre for the study of Australia’s health workforce.
The NCHWS operates within the ANU College of Health and Medicine (CHM) and is led by Associate Professor Tomoko Sugiura, Professor Mark Cormack, Associate Professor Ian Crettenden, and Associate Professor Megan Cahill which is supported by a highly experienced team of academic researchers, data analysts, policy experts and professional staff.
The ANU Health Data Analytics Team, also led by Associate Professor Tomoko Sugiura, works closely with NCWHS to provide strong research and analytical support for current and future projects.
The Centre’s functions include, but are not limited to:
- Research – A major academic centre for Australia’s health and care workforce research, focused on gaining insights into the root causes of workforce issues, designing evidence-based, actionable public policy and industry responses, and evaluation of policy interventions
- Data and intelligence – Comprehensive health and care workforce data infrastructure to build next generation, needs-based workforce modelling and planning frameworks
- Education – Education and training programs to equip governments, industry and practitioners to plan, attract, retain and develop the health workforce
- Government and industry partnerships – Trusted partner to support policy and program design via tailored research, workforce planning and projection models
By establishing NCHWS, ANU has embarked on a national research, education and policy leadership program to support government policymakers, industry, professions, regulators and the higher education sector to address current and future workforce priorities.
