The population health consequences of smoking vary between and within countries; our previous work indicates substantial underestimation of smoking-mortality harms in Australia. Future work will use 45 and Up Study and other large-scale data to investigate:

• Smoking and cause-specific mortality

• Smoking and Cancer

• Tobacco smoking and incidence of CVD
