Smoking among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults: health impacts, associated factors, and trends over time
This project uses large-scale data to generate detailed, accurate evidence specific to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population on the prevalence of smoking nationally and locally; factors associated with smoking; health consequences of smoking; and factors that support quitting smoking, in order to inform program and policy development.

The prevalence of smoking among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults has decreased substantially in recent decades, but still remains up to 3 times that the non-Indigenous Australian population. This project uses large-scale data to generate detailed, accurate evidence specific to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population on the prevalence of smoking nationally and locally; factors associated with smoking; health consequences of smoking; and factors that support quitting smoking, in order to inform program and policy development.
